How Musical Theater Has Impacted Claire Dettloff

Central Michigan University senior, Claire Dettloff, has been a part of theater productions since she was young. Click the video below to hear how musical theater has changed her life.

I thought of this idea because my roommate, Claire Dettloff, is a very talented musical theater major. She very obviously pours her heart into every character, scene, and song that she does. I thought this would be a good idea because it is a very interesting and heart-felt story of how musical theater impacted her as a person, and how it has changed her life for the better.

I have been able to personally see a few shows that she is been in during her time as a student at CMU. She is able to morph into a completely different person, and makes the characters she plays feel real.

I made the video in her bedroom, because that was the cleanest room at the time. Also, her window allows for good lighting. I had to shoot the video on my iPhone without a tripod, so the video is not as professional as I would have liked it to be. However, with the good lighting, the stellar piano playing, and interesting pictures, I feel like it turned out fairly well. There is a point in the video I pan over her wall of photos. I felt this would be a good detail to add because it shows her love for theater. She hangs many photos from her time in theater, and her friends from theater.

Even though I was slightly nervous about producing my first video, I had a lot of fun. Watching a friend talk about their passion, hear their talent, and dig deeper into why musical theater has such a large impact, made producing a video fairly exciting.
